Sea Turtles play a vital role in the health of the ocean by helping to maintain healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs which provide habitats for other marine life and keep ocean ecosystems in balance. Sadly almost all sea turtles are now at risk so we must do everything we can to protect them. Reducing plastic is one important step we can all take.
What we do know is that sea turtles—even at diminished population levels—play an important role in ocean ecosystems by maintaining healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs, providing key habitats for other marine life, helping to balance marine food webs, and facilitating nutrient cycling from water to land.
